Service Medals, Honours and Awards

The New Zealand Fire Service and The United Fire Brigades' Association of New Zealand award service medals to firefighters who have completed designated lengths of service. The first of these is a silver medal that is awarded after five years. After each additional two years, members are awarded a silver bar, which is appended to the ribbon of their 5-year medal. A long-service medal is awarded after 14 years of service. Then, after 25 years, members are presented with the much coveted Gold Star medal. On extremely rare ocassions, some members of the NZFS also go on to obtain a Double Gold Star for an astonishing 50 years of service.
